Whether you’re a first time hot tub owner or have had many, this list is a good reminder of how you should be taking care of it. We’ve broken down maintenance tasks based on how often you should do them.
Daily Care for your Hot Tub
One of the best and easiest ways to keep your hot tub running smoothly is by making sure to circulate the water. It’s not good to let the water in your tub or Jacuzzi rest too long. We recommend turning your hot tub on twice a day for 15 minutes or so. The more you run your water through your filters, the cleaner your water and tub will be. So don’t let days go by without running your hot tub.
Weekly Care for your Hot Tub
On a weekly basis, you should give your hot tub a light scrub and test the water’s pH levels. You don’t need to know anything about chemistry to do this, it’s easy! All you need to do is dip a hot tub test strip in your water once a week. The test kit you purchase will come with easy-to-follow- instructions. You’ll be able to make any necessary adjustments to your water’s chemistry with ease! As for the scrub, just wipe it down with a cloth or sponge for a few minutes so it doesn’t start to accumulate any scum or dirt. For outdoor tubs, you should also check for any debris that found its way inside your hot tub and remove it all once a week.
Monthly Care for your Hot Tub
Every month we recommend a deeper clean and to remove and wash your filters. Give the inside of your tub and the shell of the tub a better scrub to really prevent a build up of scum. If your hot tub has a cover, wash this now, too, because the covers can easily mildew. As you’re cleaning, remove your hot tub’s filters and hose them off. If you aren’t sure how to remove your filters or how many your hot tub has, contact the manufacturer of your hot tub with any questions about how to do this properly.
Quarterly Care for your Hot Tub
Every few months, it’s important to take extra steps to further preserve the life of your hot tub. You spent a lot of money on it and want to keep it functioning well! These hot tub maintenance tasks don’t need to happen every 3 months on the dot, but they should happen a few times throughout the year. You should, firstly, clean your jets by letting them run while you have a cleaning solution in the hot tub’s water. If you don’t want to buy a hot tub cleaning solution, you can also use white vinegar or a mixture of dish-washing soap and liquid bleach to get the job done. After you let the tub run with the jets on for a while, they should be clean. You’ll now need to drain your tub. Replacing your water every few months is really important for a sanitary experience. Additionally, it’s a good time to replace your filters and cartridge. The manufacturer of the filters you use can tell you exactly how often this should be done, but it usually falls between every 3-6 months or so.
Hot Tub Life Expectancy
If you take great care of your hot tub or Jacuzzi, it’s guaranteed to last much longer. Less expensive hot tubs are predicted to last 5 years, although your level of maintenance could lessen or improve that. Top of the line hot tubs could last up to 20 years if cared for properly. It’s very important to invest time in taking care of this object, as you spent a lot of money on it and want to use it for the foreseeable future. When it sees it’s last day, you can call Junk Crusaders to perform your hot tub removal for you.
